So the way forward is established. Murrell is to stand alone to face as yet unspecified charge off embezzlement. But all is not yet lost. The many Scots who donated to the SNP Independence fund might yet claim a “failure to exercise due diligence”, through the civil courts against the the officers who signed off the accounts namely: Murrell, Beattie and Sturgeon. A liability for the recovery of £600 plus interest would bankrupt
I think it’s down to the public who donated to take civil action
before we will see justice done. Police Scotland had provided the evidence but were ordered not to press charges against Sturgeon.

Reviewed my notes. Any civil action would be deferred until the outcome of any criminal happening is known. But on reflection the civil action would only need to be instructed against Sturgeon and Beattie since they were the “responsible Officers who signed off the accounts. Of note is that Sturgeon is standing down from politics and will be in receipt of a lump sum payment of two and a half times her salary, a notional sum of £500,000 plus a pension of around £90,000 annually. Adding in Beattie’s financial share of the incompetence provides more than enough money to settle the loss of the £600,000. But any case needs to be placed before the authorities without delay.
